Added new "examples" directory, perhaps eventually to be merged

You could argue that these examples all belong in ../test, along with
the gils, usmarc, cddb and dmoz examples.  You may well be right, but
I am keeping them separate at the moment, because they are
toys-in-progress rather than working test-cases.
